A veteran of Capitol Hill and former staff director for the Senate Ag Committee, Joel Leftwich is well tuned into discussion over the coming farm bill. As chief strategy officer for Kansas Farm Bureau, Joel’s experience working in public policy and his understanding of ag issues help KFB members navigate a fast-changing landscape to achieve greater success.
He is a Wellington, Kansas, native and received a Bachelor of Arts in political science and history from Friends University and a Master of Arts in political science in American government from Loyola University of Chicago.
Dr. Pat Westhoff is the director of the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute at the University of Missouri (FAPRI-MU) and the Howard Cowden Professor of Agricultural and Applied Economics in the MU Division of Applied Social Sciences.
Patrick, too, is a keen observer/analyst of farm policy issues and his career includes a stint from 1992-1996 when he served as chief economist for the Senate Ag Committee. He joined FAPRI-MU in 1996 and has worked on a range of projects in the United States, Europe, Africa, and Latin America.
He is a native of Manchester, Iowa, where he grew up on the family dairy farm. He has a B.A. in political science from the University of Iowa, an M.A. in Latin American studies from the University of Texas, and a Ph.D. in agricultural economics from Iowa State University.
