Marshall will discuss and compare the business differences in marijuana and industrial hemp, including federal and state status. He will provide an overview of policies within the US, with specific detail on Missouri and Kansas.

Opportunities to be an Industry Participant:

  • Farmer/Cultivator Perspective - Steve Levine, Partner, Cannabis Team Leader, Husch Blackwell. Steve leads Husch Blackwell's national cannabis practice and will provide an overview of the farmer/cultivator perspective and discuss new USDA rules. Since 2010, Steve’s major focus has been on the burgeoning cannabis industry, where he guides clients through the tangle of shifting regulations governing the sale and use of cannabis in both the marijuana and industrial hemp sectors.

  • Producer/Manufacturer Perspective - Marshall Custer, Partner, Husch Blackwell. Marshall is a member of Husch Blackwell’s Cannabis team, where he serves as outside general counsel for clients that are active in or entering into the regulated cannabis market in Colorado and nationally. Marshall’s comments will focus on shipping issues for producers/manufacturers. He works closely with individual entrepreneurs and executives on matters of marijuana and industrial hemp regulatory compliance, corporate structuring, debt and equity financing, governance, securities compliance, and mergers and acquisitions.

  • Product Retailer/Seller Perspective - Emily Lyons, Associate Husch Blackwell. Emily grew up on a northern Illinois dairy farm, and now helps clients bridge the gap from farm to fork. She will discuss labeling and FDA issues for product retailers/sellers. Understanding that food and beverage producers face tough choices regarding sustainability, marketing and legal requirements, she steers clients toward best solutions.
