We are pleased to announce the Honorable Charlie Stenholm,
senior policy advisor for the law firm of Olsson Frank Weeda Terman Bode Matz,
will be the speaker for the Council’s February 4 luncheon meeting. The session again will be held at the
American Royal.
Mr. Stenholm’s
topic will be “Ag Policy Update: Major
Issues Facing American Agriculture.”
Expect his comments to touch on such areas as:
- The looming federal budget
deficit and its implications for agricultural spending;
- Outlook for a 2012 Farm Bill;
- Prospects for climate change
legislation;
- Animal welfare/horse
slaughter;
- Animal identification; and
- Sustainability.
Mr.
Stenholm hails from near Abilene,
Texas, and served 26 years in the
U.S. House of Representatives representing that district. He was the Ranking Democratic Member of the
House Agriculture Committee for the last six years he served in Congress.
During his service in Congress, he gained a reputation for
building bi-partisan alliances in areas as diverse as agriculture, resource
conservation, food safety, Social Security, energy, health care, and
budget. He was a founder and co-chair of
the conservative Blue Dog Coalition.
